Sonora Guide

How to use Sonora to manage a music catalog

Sonora helps artists, producers, publishers and record labels structure music data in one place. This guide explains the catalog, browsing modes, file imports and professional identifiers.

1. Browse all tracks

The “All tracks” view displays every recording in a compact table. Search by title, artist, album, ISRC or ISWC. It is designed for metadata checks, quick corrections and large catalogs.

Revenue and charts are kept out of this page so the catalog remains focused on works, recordings and identifiers.

2. Browse by album

The “By album” view groups releases and shows track count, artist and release date. “Albums + tracks” expands each album to display its full tracklist.

This layout makes it easier to review an album, EP or single without mixing every track in the catalog.

3. Import and review metadata

Sonora accepts CSV and Excel files. During import, spreadsheet columns are mapped to catalog fields including title, primary artist, album, ISRC, UPC/EAN, ISWC, work code, duration and release date.

Before confirming an import, review identifiers, duplicates, artists and album-track relationships. Accurate metadata improves matching with distributors and collective management organizations.

Frequently asked questions about Sonora

What is an ISRC used for?

An ISRC identifies a specific sound recording. A new version, remix or new recording may require a separate ISRC.

What is the difference between UPC and ISRC?

A UPC or EAN usually identifies a commercial release, while an ISRC identifies each recording included in it.

What is an ISWC?

An ISWC identifies the musical work or composition independently from any recording of that work.

Does Sonora replace a PRO or distributor?

No. Sonora organizes and reviews catalog data. Registrations and distribution remain with the relevant organizations and partners.

Where are revenues displayed?

Statements, streams and revenue are available in a separate module so the Catalog page stays focused.

How can I prevent duplicates?

Use consistent identifiers, review titles and versions before import, and check artist, release and track relationships.
